If you enjoy history, it’s only a short drive to the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum in Hyde Park, New York. Run by the National Park Service, FDR’s home sits on a bluff overlooking the majestic Hudson River. The museum and library include extensive galleries where visitors can experience the lives of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and the dramatic events of the Great Depression and World War II. While you are there, don’t miss Eleanor Roosevelt’s Val-Kill, a “cottage industry” experiment that revived handcraft traditions such as furniture-making, metalwork and weaving.
